If you were hoping Mortal Kombat X, the tenth installment of the long-running fight franchise, would eventually appear on PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, then feel free to curse the heavens starting right now. According to Gamespot, the folks at Warner Bros. put the nail in that coffin with a recent post to the game’s community website. In plain English: It’s not going to happen. Ever.

Here’s what the distributor said via an official statement:

After months of development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has come to the regrettable conclusion that we cannot release Mortal Kombat X for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Please know our teams worked diligently to meet the quality standards set by the current-gen versions of the game. We were not able to get the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions to the quality expected of a Mortal Kombat game and are very sorry for not being able to deliver the products as originally planned.

Those who want to help Jason Voorhees destroy dozens of Mortal Kombat characters will need to splurge on a next-gen system or a capable PC to indulge in these fantasies. If none of these options are on the table, then drown your sorrows in this real-life Mortal Kombat fatalities video.
