Officially, it looks like.

I know JB has some doubts about Mark Steven Johnson developing the show, and he doesn't help his case with his resume, but honestly, the guy is a huge comic geek, and I think this could be a labor of love for him (although I thought that about him and Daredevil, too.)

But who the fuck cares?! It could be coming! I'm like a cat in pajamas right now!

It's werid, too; Michelle and I were just saying yesterday, literally, that Nacho Cerda could do a good job with Preacher...

My prayers have been answered (well, not fully - Mark Steven Johnson). But still, this is the perfect way to do Preacher.

Considering that the director's cut of Daredevil is practically a completely different film than the studio version -- and infinitely better -- there's a good chance that Johnson will do a fine job if HBO just leaves him alone.

Eh, the Daredevil director's cut still sucked. I saw next to no improvement - all the same idiotic writing and bad performances were intact.

And yet it was still better than TCM: The Beginning. Razz

I couldn't agree more, I thought the director's cut of Daredevil made the film much better and as a huge fan of Preacher i'm definitely looking forward to see how this turns out.

"In development" is a loooooong way from being aired. That said this is the ideal format for "Preacher". There isn't pressure to stretch things out forever (like a network show), creative freedom (though I'm willing to bet the chicken-fucking hillbilly doesn't make the cut), more time to tell the story than a movie. Though this'll be another show that has a critical overarching story, and it's really a stomach-punch to the fan when these get cancelled mid-stream (ala "Carnivale" or "Odyssey 5").

Seriously, though, the DC of DAREDEVIL is indeed a much better film that hews a lot closer to Miller's run on the comic series.

Sorry, but I have to be the cynic here.

The fact that Preacher is being developed for HBO is the only "good" news. As long as Johnson is in the equation it has huge potential to flop and disappoint.

Having a "comic geek" helm the project is exactly NOT what the series needs. Ennis is not a traditional comic writer and Preacher is by far a traditional comic. Preacher should be handled by someone more interested in bringing this fun, exciting, dark and disturbing to life and less to get their jollies off by working on a comic book with such a cult status.

Hopefully I'm wrong. God, I hope I'm wrong and Johnson is perfect for the job. But I am so certain that he's going to be the type of filmmaker who focuses more on the outrageousness (the violence, vulgarity, blasphemy) and less on the spirit (loyalty to family and friends, the relationship of God and (Wo)man).

Until it comes out be prepared for me to play the cynic here; and only because I am such a nut-job Preacher-phile that I dreaded this day will come when something so precious and close to me will be bastardized, abused and dumbed down for a wider, mass audience.

But I repeat: I WANT TO BE WRONG ABOUT THIS!

Pretty much all that has been said are my thoughts.

Except that TCM The Beginning sucked just as much as the Daredevil DC.

Other than that. Bring on the PREACHER!

(live action or animation?)

Hey HBO has my money as soon as the air date is official.
I'll watch it. But honestly , those of you more in tune with the industry have to know full well, that the outcome cannot be pretty. Unless, it's shot low-pro with intent on dtv sales projections, using Garris' proven formula-except Ennis is not a bankable commodity(like MASTERS)-even within the comic community most Readers don't have a fucking clue what this book is. Maybe not by the posters here but average Joe reader is so convinced that Moore's WATCHMEN is the best piece of graphic Lit. to ever be published that he/she has no clue. I take interest only because I read both from #1 till end-and IMO WM is a decompressed 6 pager.

And just to be my usual ass-hole self I'll wager a nickel over half of the poser-poster don't have a clue as to who the story's really about.

What happened to David Chase being involved in it whether from a producer's or creator's chair?

Huh. Y'know, I never considered animation. Done in the Steve Dillon style...it could work.

Personally, I think the only way this could be a huge sucess is if Steve and Garth are involved from day one. If they can't get into it, then it's just not going to be the same.

Ah well...beats the piss out of a 2 hour movie.
