Nope. Boring. Of the ones I saw, I think it was by far the worst.
I went into it not knowing a thing about it. Nacho's name came up on the screen and I elbowed my buddy and said he was in for a treat. An hour and a half later I apoligized for building it up. The movie looked great, it was shot well. Too bad it was just a boring story that in the end was a waste of time. |

Again I have to chime in with the comment that it was my favorite of the fest. Maybe my Russian blood helped me feel something more for the characters? 
Whatever . . . that's what makes a good fest. Some stuff you love, some stuff you hate, and even more stuff in-between.

| great movie and best of the fest for sure. a horror film for those with an attention span greater than that of a 11 year old. |

There weren't many goodies this year. The Abandoned was the best

| I really liked it. It actually scared me a little. I thought it was creepy, well written and very well shot. I think the meeting of Karim Hussain's writing and Nacho Cerda's directing is perfect. These two should work together again. |

It scared me a little bit too. The Abandoned was a very creepy movie and it did trip me out a bit. It's giving me the heebeegeebees just thinking about certain parts.

Maybe not at horror fest but 2006 gave us some pretty good movies. The Descent, 2001 Maniacs, and that's all I can think of. What else came out this year? |

When I got to the theatre I was worried...About 50% of the audience looked as if they were seeing Snoop Dogs Hood of Horror, which worried the fuck out of me...Sorry, but that audience is not the one I want to see a reportedly moody, serious, and essentially goreless horror film with...Luckily they turned out to be an exception...Barring a chorus of "boos" from the less fortunate souls that would have applauded Leprechaun if Da Hood that is...
I liked it a lot...But based solely on the extremely effective atmosphere and surprising way the film unfolds...I wasn't invested in the characters at all, the two protagonist aren't given that much to do except wonder, like us, what the fuck is going on...Well, one of them wonders...The male inexplicably knows whats going and tells us conveniently....The worst part is that he only reveals this information when it's extremely convenient....It seems as though he could have easily said this in his first scene...The script is strongest when it comes to events which are RARELY predictable and most are brought to the screen in an evectly scary, thrilling and creepy way...
Cerda is one to watch...The man knows how to create atmosphere and send chills up the spine with images and great use of sound...
It's an effective if hollow horror film that is so good at doing what it's supposed to do, which is scare, that I forgive it's lack of engaging characters and conventient expository dialogue...
