Holy shit, this guy can write! BERSERK is the best book I've read this year so far. I'm now ordering everything else he's published.

Yeah, he's a great one; sure to be much bigger than he is now witin a few years. This is a damn good one, too.

I have been reading Lebbon for a few years now. In fact, WHITE is one of the best short stories I've ever read. Really good creepy stuff.

I agree wholeheartedly. I just read WHITE in a volume of The Mammoth Book of Best New Horror series, and it's gotta be in the top 10 somewhere for me as far as the best stories I've ever read.

I have Berserk, but haven't read it yet. I'm sure it will be good. And it's great to hear the great things being said about it.

Indeed it is, though I'm only 100 pages into it right now. You know, the kind of world-building that Lebbon does here really reminds me of China Mieville's PERDIDO STREET STATION. But while I found Mieville's Peakian writing style quite challenging and occasionally exhausting, Lebbon's DUSK (much like BERSERK) almost reads by itself.

Finished DUSK a while ago now. The two standout scenes for me were the awakening of the Nax in the miners' shafts and the fight against the Red Monk in Pavisse.

Almost finished with DESOLATION as well, which I'm liking a lot more than Johnny in his review for the site. Maybe the ending is gonna suck and change my opinion of it. So far I'd say that while DUSK is certainly good stuff I prefer Lebbon's stories to be contemporary.

This is very cool news as well:

Hope it actually happens!

The sequel to Dusk will be out early next year.

And on a side note. Fangoria.com says that WHITE has been picked up to be a movie. A great fucking story. One of the best in my opinion.

Here's a link to Tim announcing it.

Yes, that's what the link in the post right above yours is about...

Just finished his collection FEARS UNNAMED from Leisure Books. It contains four of his novellas: REMAINS, WHITE, THE UNFORTUNATE and NAMING OF PARTS. The first one, REMAINS, is kind of a Lovecraftian tale about a city of the dead in the African desert. WHITE, easily my favorite in the book, deals with the apocalypse and strange, murderous creatures in the snow. A bit reminescent of Stephen King's THE MIST but in all the right ways. THE UNFORTUNATE is an evil little story about a man who survives a plane crash with the aid of some kind of spectral creatures. His good luck, he soon learns, has a terrible price because every time something good happens to him, something very awful happens to someone he loves. NAMING OF PARTS, finally, is a sort-of zombie tale, even though the z-word is never brought up.

I picked up Berserk and haven't been able to put it down. I went through 200 pages in a day and a half. Can't wait to finish and from what everyone has said here I think I'll grab Fears Unnamed next.

He has a new book called THE EVERLASTING coming from Leisure in May. Not much info available on it yet except that it's a ghost story of some kind. With Lebbon doing the writing I think it's a safe bet it won't be the same old same old.

I also noticed he's doing the novelisation of 30 DAYS OF NIGHT to tie in with the movie's release. LEBBON'S GOTTA EAT! Seriously, it's a bit depressing how many really great writers have to resort to tie in books and novelisations in order to pay the bills. At least Lebbon is doing both originals and tie ins unlike certain other writers who've given up on doing their own books entirely.

It bums me out that FACE and NATURE OF BALANCE are out of print. I understand that both can be had for dirt cheap from used book stores but getting them that way will be a bit of pain compared to how easy it is to order in print titles these days. Fuck, I'm spoiled.

I see Face in PB all the time at HalfPrice Books.

Here's the HC. They are going quickly.
