Another remake of 1958’s The Blob is currently in the works, and we can only hope it’s half as good as 1988’s version was. Con Air director Simon West is at the helm of the ship, and now we know who is going to star. Read on for the latest!

THR reports today that the always badass Samuel L. Jackson has been cast in West’s Blob remake, tasked with fending off the gelatinous mass. Jackson will play a biochemistry professor attempting to thwart the other-worldly predator discovered deep within the earth.

With modern CGI we can now fully realize the potential of The Blob,” West recently said. “The world I create will be totally believable, immersive, and emotionally satisfying. It’s a thrill to introduce an enduring icon to a wider audience and a whole new era of fans.”

Goldcrest Films, which is representing global sales and distribution, launched the film to distributors at the EFM earlier in the year and already secured deals in Germany, Italy, China, Latin America, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, India, the Middle East, and South Africa.

Richard Saperstein and Brian Witten will produce along with Jack Harris, the 96-year-old producer of the original 1958 film; Judith Parker Harris; and Taewon Chung.

The original film, which was released by Paramount, starred a young Steve McQueen. The story sees an alien life-form emerge from a crashed meteor and begin to ooze through Downingtown, PA, eating the townsfolk as it goes.
