First News & Pic From Plaguers

Plaugers pic (click to see it bigger!)Just got word in our inbox from Mutation directors Brad and Josephina Sykes about their latest collaboration, a badass sounding genre mix called Plaguers.

The sci-fi/horror film stars Steve Railsback (The Devil’s Rejects, Ed Gein) as a crewmember of an earthbound space freighter where an alien virus is accidentally unleashed which, instead of making its crew all get along and have better singing voices as you’d expect, turns them into bloodthirsty, demonic creatures. That’s why you should never, ever travel with an alien virus. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times.

“A lot of my favorite Eighties horror movies – films like Aliens, The Thing, and most of Cronenberg’s work – mixed horror and sci-fi to good effect, and Plaguers is definitely in that tradition,” Sykes said in a press release. “At the same time, I didn’t want to just do a rip-off or a retread of those films. I wanted to create something new.”

Sykes, who’s also responsible for everything from Camp Blood 1&2 to Death Factory, brought on board the boys at Monster FX (Tamara, 2001 Maniacs) to create not just the massive amount of gore in the movie, but also creature suits and character makeup. “It was a tall order, but they did an amazing job,” he continued. “We all tried to make a movie that really delivers, and I think we accomplished that.”

To the right you can see the first pic from Plaguers (that’s Railsback in front in case you were wondering). The film’s currently going through post-production, and an official site is planned to launch soon; then it hits the festival circuit in 2007 so be sure to keep your eyeballs peeled for it!
