Welcome to Hoxford (click to see it bigger!)With Butane up in the Great White North at Fantasia, it fell to me to let you guys know about a nasty new comic book series that’s coming our way featuring an unusual take on his favorite subject: Werewolves!

Ben Templesmith, co-creator of 30 Days of Night, incorporates werewolf necrophilia and talking rats, among other things, in Welcome to Hoxford, which IDW Publishing is releasing this August. Both written and illustrated by Templesmith, Welcome to Hoxford tells the disturbing tale of Raymond Delgado, the newest inmate at the Hoxford Correctional Facility and Mental Institution.

Ray “has no hope of release, parole, rehabilitation, or decent conversation. Ray hasn’t been taking his medication. No surprises there. On a good day, he’ll tell you he’s Zeus and only bite your arm off—literally. On a bad day, you won’t have time to scream to the prison guard for help. But Dr. Jessica Ainley, his doctor for five years, wants to help Ray and can’t understand why the newly privatized, corporately-run prison won’t give her access to her patients. And why people are always transferred into Hoxford, but no records show anyone ever transferring back out.

Calling Hoxford possibly the “darkest” story he’s ever written, Templesmith explains the book’s origins came about as a result of having some of his previous work banned from a few prisons. You have to love the irony!

And if you’re planning on attending this year’s San Diego Comic-Con next week, you’ll get an added bonus. According to Templesmith’s blog, you’ll be treated to a preview of the actual comic plus some extra content that won’t be available elsewhere.
