A nice diversity of titles coming your way this Tuesday, January 8th, 2008…
Click to see it bigger!Addiction (2007)
Directed by James Tucker

A man who accidentally kills a mugger in self-defense becomes addicted to the thrill he gets from the murder. Slowly he alienates himself from his friends and family and he becomes obsessed with only the next fix; the next kill. Now, Brain Damage is certainly improving on their box art skills, but couldn’t they have found someone with better teeth for the front of this one? Yeesh. Buy it here!

Directed by Jeff Bettancourt

A woman who suffers from a lifelong fear of the boogeyman (?) voluntarily checks herself into a mental health facility to try and overcome her fears. What sucks for her, however, is that she soon realizes that things are trying to scare her to death on purpose and confronting her demons was actually the worst possible move she could make. Click to see it bigger!Days of Darkness (2007)
Directed by Jake Kennedy

Oh, God, here we go again. This time a zombie outbreak is caused by a meteor that crashes to Earth and at first is thought to be harmless. We end up with a group of survivors trapped in a bunker who have to fight off the flesh-eating ghouls. This has got a lot more going against it since it’s also a direct-to-DVD Lionsgate release, but perhaps it can rise above and prove to be something at least somewhat fun. Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde Rock ‘n Roll Musical (2002)
Directed by Andre Champagne

Well, what do you really need to know? It’s a musical adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale of duel identity. Of course it’s rock and roll so I’m guessing it’s a bit more light-hearted than the actual story. I’ve heard some good and bad about it so I guess it’s really a matter of if you’re interested in seeing how someone would turn “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde” into a musical. Personally, I think I’ll pass. Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Dragon Wars (2007)
Directed by Hyung-rae Shim

Finally, the big-ass dragon attacking LA movie you’ve been waiting for is coming home! The Korean film became somewhat infamous for taking so goddamn long to come out, only to be met with question marks when it made it’s way to our shores. No matter, though, I’m sure it will find its life on DVD for sure. I know I have every intention of getting it! Check out our Dragon Wars DVD review for more! Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger! The Expedition (2007)
Directed by Nigel Hartwell

All right, another film that tries to say it’s based on true events. Since I’ve never heard of the incident before I’m going to guess it’s just a marketing gimmick, but who knows. On Halloween of 2004, five filmmakers entered the Saratoga Homestead Asylum to document the supernatural. Only four of them came out the next morning. Not bad odds, considering… the film is supposedly the footage taken from their cameras put together to tell the story. Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Joshua (2007)
Directed by George Ratliff

A very strange film from all accounts; both comedic and horrific. The story is about an upwardly mobile couple who just cannot deal with the fact that their son, Joshua, is of a very different class; uppity and proper. Joshua just can’t take the attention that’s lavished upon the newest addition to their family, though, and his insanity leads him to do some very crazy shit in order to get the child out of his life. Check out our Joshua DVD review for more! Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger! The Killing Floor (2007)
Directed by Gideon Raff

What is it with Marc Blucas? Does he think because he was a secondary character on “Buffy” for so long that he can only do secondary, direct-to-DVD horror films now? I bet his manager’s telling him that. Anyway, in the Blucas plays a horror novelist whose new-found success leads him to purchase a penthouse apartment. Unfortunately for him, life comes to imitate art as he finds out the bloody history of his new pad. Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Mammoth (2006)
Directed by Tim Cox

All right, so an alien lifeform crashes to earth and, in order to adapt to our atmosphere, grabs a hold of the first earth-bound creature it can find; a partially frozen Wolly Mammoth. It integrates itself into the beast, brings it to life, and causes all manner of problems for us humans. Too bad the movie supposedly sucks mammoth testicles, because that cover is just plain and simply badass. Check out our Mammoth review for more! Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Maneater (2006)
Directed by Gary Yates

How the hell does a Bengal tiger run amok on the Appalachian Trail? Only Gary Busey knows, friend, and there is some information that mortal man should quite simply never be exposed to. I don’t know if this is it, but I guarantee said info is resting somewhere in Busey’s brain cogs and I want nothing to do with it. Anyway, yeah, the movie is about an escaped tiger making life uncomfortably short for those who cross its path on the popular hiking trail. Will Busey be able to save us? Who knows, but I bet the tiger would want nothing to do with his crazy flesh. Check out our Maneater review to learn more! Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Purgatory (2007)
Directed by John O’Callaghan

Wow, what a ridiculous cover. I mean, it’s York so you can’t expect stunning quality, but an instant glance at this says to me “comedy”. Perhaps it is, though. The story is about three city boys on a dirt biking vacation (!) south of Palm Springs, unaware of their proximity to a major immigrant smuggling route. They stumble across the body of an immigrant who’s been shot to death, and soon the alien’s killer; a couple of locals who make a game out of hunting their fellow man. And guess who’s next on the list? Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Scarred (2004)
Directed by Steve Looker

A year ago, Bill lost his daughter, Jen. Every week he goes to the site she was last seen and puts up a missing persons poster, but on this fateful day he meets someone wandering in the road; a man who, along with Jen, had spent the last year of his life being forced to play sick games at a shed in the middle of the forest, where he left the girl after she was badly injured. Of course, Bill makes the stranger bring him to the girl, explaining the torture at the hands of some locals along the way. Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Slaugthered (2007)
Directed by Anthony Doublin

What the fuck? Are you serious about this? A guy who owns a snuff site called Slaughtered Sheep is haunted by the multiple deaths he’s cause for the love of money and slowly goes mad. Can you get any more trite? I mean, the guy takes women off the street, tortures and murders them on camera, and then feels bad about it. And someone thought that’d make an interesting movie? I think I’ll pass on this one, thanks. Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Sunshine (2007)
Directed by Danny Boyle

Yet another movie on the list of things I never got to see in theaters last year. Too bad, cause this one sounded like it would be enjoyed best on a huge screen with great sound. Of course, there’s always the hi-def TV I have… anyway, the story is about a space crew sent to stop the sun from going out, effectively destroying all life on Earth. A huge undertaking for someone like Boyle, who to date has made fairly small films (28 Days Later being an exception), it’s something worth checking out, or so I hear. Check out our Sunshine review to learn more! Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger! The Veil (2007)
Directed by John Chance

Goddamn it should not be this difficult to find out who directed something. If anyone from Brain Damage Films is reading this; please, please do something about your site. It sucks in terms of finding, well, anything. All right, so The Veil is a no-budget zombie film from the UK shot in Black and White and red all over (rimshot). A special forces team is sent out to stop the virus that caused the undead to become such a menace are forced to hole up in an abandoned farmhouse. A B&W zombie film in a farmhouse? Sound familiar? Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!White Noise 2 (2006)
Directed by Patrick Lussier

I couldn’t get through this whole movie when I tried, and believe me I wanted to; I have a huge man-crush on Nathan Fillion after “Firefly” and Serenity, not to mention his stint on “Buffy”, but he’s just so one-note in this it’s impossible to get through. He plays a guy whose near-death experience causes him to become a conduit for white noise, as opposed to just being able to hear he, he creates it. Not a bad idea for a follow-up but it just didn’t work for me. Check out our White Noise 2 DVD review to learn more! Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Witchcraft 13: Blood of the Chosen (2007)
Directed by Mel House

My God, 13 movies? That’s almost ridiculous until you consider this is a franchise built on two things; blood and boobs. And really, what guy would complain about either in his film? All right, there are some, but you get my point. This time out, recurring “hero” Will Spanner is forced into battle with forces of evil when he investigates some brutal murders, all the victims of which have something in common with Will. Will he figure out what that is before the evil gets him? Gosh, I hope so. Buy it here!
