She’s Next Door in December

Not to be mistaken with that Elisha Cuthbert tragedy!I never really noticed how many movies shared the same title as Jack Ketchum’s The Girl Next Door (review). Just a quick search on Amazon brought up several results, but not a single one was for the DVD we wanted.

It was a mystery when this twisted flick was going to hit the store shelves … at least until today. Anchor Bay announced today that the film adaption of Ketchum’s 1989 novel will be out on DVD come December 4th.

The Girl Next Door centers around “Orphans Meg (Blythe Auffarth, Keeping the Faith) and her disabled sister Susan (Madeline Taylor), who are held captive by their distant aunt Ruth (Emmy®-Award winner Blanche Baker). Their aunt is a tormented and sadistic woman rapidly going insane. Ruth’s madness has infected her three sons, as well as the entire neighborhood. Only 12-year-old David (Daniel Manche, “As the World Turns”) stands between Meg and Susan and what threatens to be their protracted and torturous deaths.

The controversial film isn’t getting the cheap treatment when it comes to DVD extras. Thanks Anchor Bay! Just look at what is coming loaded on the disc:

  • Audio commentary with Director Gregory Wilson, Producer Andrew van den Houten, and Cinematographer/Co-Producer William M. Miller
  • Audio commentary with Novelist Jack Ketchum and Screenwriters Daniel Farrands and Philip Nutman
  • Interviews with Cast & Crew
  • Exclusive Documentary: The making of The Girl Next Door
  • Theatrical Trailer
    Screenplay (DVD-Rom)

As soon as it shows up on the radar for pre-order we’ll update!
