Igor Goes CG

Igor: a name that has become synonymous with mad scientist sidekicks. Always relegated to perennial second fiddle status and never one to get much respect, Igor’s time has finally come.

The Hollywood Reporter reports the Exodus Film Group will begin production next year on Igor, a CG-animated comedy that follows the hunchbacked lab assistant’s dreams of becoming a scientist like his mad scientist boss by winning first place at the annual Evil Science Fair. Tony Leondis (Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch) will direct, while the Weinstein Co. has already signed on to distribute the film in North America.

Igor‘s Shrek treatment will come complete with a celebrity voice courtesy of Christian Slater. As signed on are John Cleese as Igor’s boss and Steve Buscemi as the voice of Igor’s smart but grumpy lab rabbit.

At this point a computer animated movie that isn’t about talking animals in the wild is a welcome change of pace to me, but I can’t help but think Buscemi would be far more befitting the voice of Igor instead of Slater…
