John Cusack Up For Stephen King’s 1408: PART II

Mikael Hafstrom’s adaptation of Stephen King’s short story 1408 with John Cusack is a fun and freaky flick. And today, Cusack revealed he’s up for a sequel.

Cusack tells Collider: “I haven’t really done sequels as much. I did a couple of loose sequels, where I felt like I had something else to say with the character but you can’t get the rights, so you just do another version of it. I did that a couple of times. I always thought there was another version of 1408, where he could wake up back in the room and continue on. That’s just getting into that Stephen King headspace. He’s such a terrific writer, and I do love like that Rod Serling psychological horror...”

Bring it on, I say!

Based on Stephen King’s short story, the first film features Cusack as a successful author who enjoys debunking supernatural phenomena — before he checks into the Dolphin Hotel. Ignoring the warnings of the hotel manager (Jackson), he learns the meaning of real terror when he spends the night in a reputedly haunted room.

Co-starring Samuel L. Jackson, Mary McCormack, and Tony Shalhoub, the film sports an 80% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: Relying on psychological tension rather than overt violence and gore, 1408 is a genuinely creepy thriller with a strong lead performance by John Cusack.
