Dario Argento’s THE CARD PLAYER & THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA Now Available on Blu-ray

Scorpion Releasing just unleashed legendary Deep Red and Suspiria director Dario Argento’s 2004 Italian giallo The Card Player AND Argento’s 1998 adaptation of Gaston Leroux’s The Phantom of the Opera on Blu-ray. Both include a limited-edition slipcover with artwork by Yannick Bouchard while supplies last.

The Card Player sees Argento return to classic form with this vicious thriller about a serial killer known as “The Card Player”, who is kidnapping young women in Rome. Using a webcam set-up, the killer challenges the police by forcing them to play hands of Internet poker. If the police lose, the kidnapped victim is tortured and murdered on-screen. When a British tourist is among the girls murdered, policeman John Brennan (Cunningham) is assigned the case and quickly teams up with Italian detective Anna Mari (Rocca). The duo has their work cut out for them when the Police Chief’s daughter (Argento) becomes the killer’s latest kidnapping victim.

It is directed by Argento who also co-wrote the script with Franco Ferrini (Phenomena, Demons). It stars Stefania Rocca, Liam Cunningham, Silvio Muccino, and Verra Gemma.

Argento’s different take on the classic tale of The Phantom of the Opera centers on a series of mysterious and terrifying accidents and brutal murders leave a bloody trail into subterranean caverns of the Opera house. Below stalks a man raised by creatures of the underworld. He tragically falls for the beautiful up and coming opera singer Christine. He lures her into his underground lair. Will she be saved from his clutches?

It’s directed by Argento from a screenplay he co-wrote with Gérard Brach and Giorgina Caspari based on the novel by Gaston Leroux. Ennio Morricone provided the score. Claudio Argento, Giuseppe Colombo, and Aron Sipos produced.

It stars Julian Sands as The Phantom of the Opera, Asia Argento as Christine Daaé, Andrea Di Stefano as Raoul, Baron de Chagny, Nadia Rinaldi as Carlotta Altieri, Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni as Honorine, and István Bubik as The Rat Catcher. It’s available exclusively at Ronin Flix HERE.
