Daniel Myrick to Present 20th Anniversary Screening of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT at AUSTIN FILM FESTIVAL

It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since The Blair Witch Project took the world by storm, effectively revamping the existing horror landscape and making “found footage” a dominate subgenre throughout the 2010s. To celebrate this incredible milestone, Blair Witch co-writer/co-director Daniel Myrick will be hosting a commemorative screening at the Austin Film Festival, taking place from October 25th thru October 31st.

Here’s the full scoop from this morning’s press release:

Horror auteur Daniel Myrick and producer Joseph Restaino are screening the World Premiere of their film Skyman. The film follows Carl Merryweather, who claims he was visited by an alien as a child. Now, thirty years later, he’s convinced that same alien is returning for a reunion. Additionally, Myrick will present a Retrospective 20th Anniversary screening of The Blair Witch Project during the Festival in honor of his landmark contribution to genre film.

Also joining this year’s slate is Netflix’s feature Rattlesnake, which will be having its World Premiere at the Festival. Rattlesnake is a pulse-pounding, psychological horror film written/directed by Zak Hilditch (1922These Final Hours), who will participate in AFF’s Writers Conference with producer Ross Dinerstein. Local director Matt Patterson will present the World Premiere of Apartment 413, a cerebral domestic thriller. This Austin-made film portrays a man’s deteriorating grip on his relationship and reality.

The centerpiece will include the Texas homecoming for native Trey Edward Shults, whose previous writer-director credits include Krisha and It Comes at Night. Set against the vibrant landscape of South Florida and featuring an astonishing ensemble of award-winning actors and breakouts alike, Waves traces the epic emotional journey of a suburban African-American family— led by a well-intentioned but domineering father—as they navigate love, forgiveness, and coming together in the aftermath of a loss.

The Blair Witch Project Synopsis:
Found video footage tells the tale of three film students (Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard, Michael C. Williams) who’ve traveled to a small town to collect documentary footage about the Blair Witch, a legendary local murderer. Over the course of several days, the students interview townspeople and gather clues to support the tale’s veracity. But the project takes a frightening turn when the students lose their way in the woods and begin hearing horrific noises.
