Baker to Make New Wolf Man?

Sometimes you see news out there that’s heralded as a rumor and you just know, somewhere inside you, that it’s too good to be true. For example, when it was announced that Rick Baker would be designing the werewolf for Wes Craven’s Cursed; it sounded so fucking right that of course it had to be wrong. Though he did his work and probably made something amazing, we’ll never see it now.

So when Shock Till You Drop reported yesterday that they’ve heard rumblings that Baker will be involved with the lycanthrope at the heart of Universal’s Wolf Man remake, which Benicio del Toro is slated to star in as the ill-fated Larry Talbot, I had to just take a step back.

I mean, really, the guy doesn’t work much these days, so is it realistic to think that he’d come out of semi-retirement to design yet another werewolf? Don’t get me wrong; if anyone should be doing it, it’s Baker, but … well, it’s just too good to be true for my delicate fanboy heart.

Still, I will run with it and hope for the best. Though I doubt we’ll see anything as amazing as the work Baker did years ago on An American Werewolf in London, how cool would it be to be proven horribly wrong on that count? The Wolf Man redux is being helmed by Mark (One Hour Photo) Romanek and is scheduled to start shooting in December with a planned November 14th, 2008 release. Keep it here for more as we learn it!
