Silent Night, Deadly Podcast: EP9 – THE CHILDREN (2008)

You asked for it, Harry Stadling asked for it, Caesar & Otto asked for it, and now Dread Central is proud to present the year-round Christmas horror podcast you’ve long been waiting for… Silent Night, Deadly Podcast! Chris, Kieran, Matt, and Rob – collectively known as “The Jingle Boys” to their friends and “who?” to everyone else – are prepared to take you on a demented journey through a winter wonderland of the best and worst tinsel terror the big (and small) screen has to offer.

This week’s slice of Christmas horror is a modern classic of the subgenre — yeah, we said it — that also doubles as one of the best “killer kid” movies you’ve ever had the bloody joy of seeing. 2008’s The Children pits a quartet of terrifying tykes against unsuspecting parents, and the result is a smart, suspenseful ride filled with grisly demises on both sides. Writer/director Tom Shankland hasn’t made a feature film since for some reason, but the four of us are planning to sit on Santa Claus’ lap in protest until a new Shankland movie lands underneath our Christmas tree.

Are there enough Christmas decorations to satisfy Chris? Do the kids die beautifully enough to leave Rob smiling? Is some cleavage enough to excite the pillow-loving Matt? Will Kieran remember to unmute his microphone? There’s only one way to find out the answers to these questions and more as The Jingle Boys settle in for a holiday weekend with The Children and some of the most malicious miscreants this side of, well, The Children (1980).
