WORLD WAR Z 2 May Be Gearing Up for a Massive 10-Month Long Shoot

Update: Paramount has informed us that the March start date for World War Z 2 has not been confirmed. We’ll keep you posted when an official start date is announced.

It’s been over 5 years since we last saw Brad Pitt fighting zombies in Marc Forster’s World War Z (based on the novel of the same name by Max Brooks). Even worse, Paramount twice postponed slated production start-dates for a planned sequel, leading many to suspect the project was doomed from the get go. Everything changed, however, when Pitt convinced his friend and Fight Club director David Fincher to take the helm.

Now, Paramount is raring to move forward and, according to the latest issue of Production Weekly (thanks to MovieWeb for the tip), the production start date has been pushed forward from June to March. That means World War Z 2 (not the official name) may be gearing up to start rolling cameras in a matter of weeks.

Locations revealed include Spain and Thailand and suggest the production is planning to run through 2020. While it’s uncertain how much of that time will be spent in principal photography, that’s still one hell of a long shoot! If all this pans out, we can probably expect an official announcement from Paramount in the not-too-distant-future. Stay tuned for further World War Z 2 news as details emerge. Stay tuned!

In the meantime, check out the synopsis and trailer for 2013’s World War Z below.

Synopsis:
When former U.N. investigator Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) and his family get stuck in urban gridlock, he senses that it’s no ordinary traffic jam. His suspicions are confirmed when, suddenly, the city erupts into chaos. A lethal virus, spread through a single bite, is turning healthy people into something vicious, unthinking and feral. As the pandemic threatens to consume humanity, Gerry leads a worldwide search to find the source of the infection and, with luck, a way to halt its spread.

In addition to Pitt, World War Z stars Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, and James Badge Dale; no word yet on who from the original film (besides Pitt, of course) will be returning.
