James DeMonaco Wants to “End It All” in THE PURGE 5

Though James DeMonaco wrote all four films in The Purge franchise, he passed the director’s torch to Gerard McMurray for the most recent installment, The First Purge (released earlier this year). It suggested the series’ mastermind had grown weary of the hugely successful Blumhouse property, but after having participated in The Purge TV series on USA, his love for the franchise seems to be reinvigorated.

In fact, it looks like DeMonaco has been inspired; in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the filmmaker revealed that he’s currently writing the next Purge feature film and that it will be the last. That said, he plans to go out in a big way:

“I have it in my head. I think I’m going to write it. I think it’s a great way to end it all. We want to end it all, I think, in this one, and I’m very excited. When I came up with the idea and pitched it to everybody, they seemed psyched, and I think it will be a really cool ending, how we take this one home.”

No word on when The Last Purge (as I’m calling it until an official title is revealed) will arrive in theaters or whether DeMonaco will return to direct in addition to penning the screenplay. Still, we’ll keep our ears to the ground to bring you all Purge-related news as details emerge. Stay tuned! In the meantime, check out the synopsis and trailer for The First Purge below.

Synopsis:
To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the others, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.
