Southern Gothic South of the Border

Southern Gothic plays Mexico!Been a long time since we last heard a peep about Mark Young’s vampire tale Southern Gothic (“New Gothic, Nails Treats” – June 2007), but we just got a heads-up about another chance to see the movie for fans of both William Forsythe and vampires.

All you have to do is travel to Mexico!

Southern Gothic has been accepted as part of the sixth edition of Mexico’s Festival Macabro, going down in Mexico City this year August 23rd- September 2nd. I didn’t even know Mexico had a genre-centric film festival so this is pretty cool on many fronts!

Southern Gothic tells of a man who goes on a mission to rescue a young girl from a maniacal preacher who is on a bloody crusade, as a way of atoning for the horrible death of his daughter, for which he feels responsible. So far it’s gotten good reviews from the few places it’s shown, so we’re keeping an eye on it.

Be sure to hit the official Southern Gothic site for more info on the movie, and keep it here for updates so you’ll know when you can see it on your own turf!
