The original 1958 version of The Blob opened with a kooky custom theme song that was all about warning listeners to “beware of the blob”. The 1988 remake concludes with a power ballad that … I’m not really sure what “Brave New Love” has to do with not getting devoured by acidic ooze.

The original Blob’s loungerific theme song was co-written by Burt Bacharach and performed by a group put together specifically for the film going by the name The Five Blobs. The closing credits of the 1988 Blob cap off the movie with a song from a Swedish hard rock AOR band named Alien whose lyrics are all about having very vigorous sex with an aggressive woman. Again, not sure what that has to do with man-eating slime, but this was the Eighties and that’s what hard rock AOR bands sang about at the time.

The “B” in this weekend’s B-Sides musical double feature stands for “Blob”. From the 1958 cult classic The Blob, here are The Five Blobs performing “The Blob”, followed by, from the 1988 remake of The Blob, Alien performing the I-can’t-believe-it’s-not-Dokken power ballad “Brave New Love”.
