Bryan Cranston, Total RecallNow this … this is what we call fantastic news! Bryan Cranston, Emmy-winning star of AMC’s incredible series “Breaking Bad”, is in negotiations to play the villain in Columbia Pictures’ remake of Total Recall.

The original 1990 movie, based on the Philip K. Dick story We Can Remember It for You Wholesale, was about a man haunted by a recurring dream of journeying to Mars who comes to believe he is a secret agent and ends up on a Martian colony while the new story involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai.

Per THR’s Heat Vision Blog Cranston would play Vilos Cohaagen, the leader of Euromerica who, under the cover of protecting his people, is secretly readying an invasion of New Shanghai. Colin Farrell has already signed on to play Douglas Quaid, a factory worker in New Shanghai who begins to believe he is a spy, although he doesn’t know for which side.

Total Recall is being directed by Len Wiseman and produced by Neal Moritz and his Original Film banner. The redux will be landing in theatres on August 3rd, 2012.
