Lionsgate Introduces Low Budget Shingle – Quality Budget Horror on the Way

There’s no doubt about it. The success of Paranormal Activity has completely leveled the filmmaking landscape for young directors in need of a break. Like the movie or not, you have to respect it for that.
In the wake of that film’s release, major studios have been opening new cost effective labels that fund films on the cheap such as Paramount’s Insurge Pictures. Today Lionsgate announced that it will be throwing its hat into the ring by starting a micro-budget production initiative, which is focused exclusively on producing films with budgets of under $2 million.
Three films will kick off the slate, one of which comes from Aussie helmer Greg Mclean, who pumped out both Wolf Creek and the way under-rated flick Rogue.
6 Miranda Drive is a supernatural thriller in the vein of the classic hit Poltergeist. “Based on true events, the movie is about a family that unwittingly brings a supernatural force home with them from vacation. Feeding off their own fears, the evil presence threatens to destroy them from within as it takes over their lives and home, with terrifying results.”
Up to ten films will be produced each year under the micro-budget umbrella. More soon!
