DVD and Blu-Ray Releases: March 22nd – Aliens Hate Los Angeles

default-featured-image

Los Angeles has not seen this much action from aliens since Predator 2 and the beginning of the influx of “coyote” vehicles from Mexico. To keep the close encounters coming (at a reasonable price) Skyline starring Eric Balfour, Scottie Thompson, Brittany Daniel, Crystal Reed, Neil Hopkins, David Zayas and Donald Faison, finally comes home to Blu-ray and DVD this week.

We accidentally jumped the gun last week by talking up the release of Battle of Los Angeles. The Nia Peeples vehicle moves from SyFy channel to your home this week too, while the actual Battle: Los Angeles is still in the theaters.

The last title of note this week is also an alien invasion flick but from 30 years ago that is being released in glorious Blu-ray. Luckily these aliens had bigger ambitions than LA.

Skyline on DVDSkyline (REVIEW)
Directed by Colin Strause and Greg Strause
Starring Eric Balfour, Scottie Thompson, Brittany Daniel, Crystal Reed, Neil Hopkins, David Zayas, Donald Faison

It was supposed to be a simple birthday weekend in Southern California. But when sunrise arrives two hours early in the form of a haunting light from an unknown source, a group of friends watch in terror as people across the city are drawn outside and swept into massive alien ships that have blotted out the L.A. skyline. From tankers to drones and hydra-like extraterrestrials, the aliens are inescapable and seemingly indestructible. Now, it will take every survival instinct the group has to elude capture in this riveting, action-packed sci-fi adventure starring Eric Balfour (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Donald Faison (“Scrubs”) and Scottie Thompson (Star Trek).

Battle of Los Angeles on DVDBattle of Los Angeles (REVIEW)
Directed by Mark Atkins
Starring Kel Mitchell, Nia Peeples, Theresa Jun-Tao

In February, 1942, US forces engaged an unidentified flying object above Los Angeles. Now, almost 70 years later, the alien invaders have returned. Battle of Los Angeles was written and directed by Mark Atkins, the maker of such other Asylum offerings as Princess of Mars and Merlin and the War of the Dragons. Atkins informed me in an email a short while back that certain sequences will employ a mix of comic book style action and cinema-verite sequences and to expect more than one variety of extraterrestrial invader.

Alien 2 on Earth (Midnight Legacy Collection) (1980) on DVDAlien 2 on Earth (Midnight Legacy Collection) (1980) (REVIEW)
Directed by Ciro Ippolito
Starring Belinda Mayne, Mark Bodin, Michele Soavi

A group of cave explorers are confronted in an underground cavern by a mysterious living rock. Little do they know that it bears home to deadly, flesh-eating creatures, intent on wiping out the entire human population. Can they survive and ultimately prevent Earth’s total annihilation? Never released in the United States, only a handful of countries saw a cropped and edited VHS release nearly thirty years ago, that is until now. For our inaugural release, Midnight Legacy is proud to present the first-ever widescreen release of Alien 2 On Earth. The definitive version, transferred from the original 35mm negative, which runs longer than any other version seen throughout the world. The presentation that finally represents the intended vision of Alien 2 On Earth.
