Finally an event in San Diego we can tell you about that isn’t Comic-Con! The Blacklist Art & Film Festival, champions of gore and advocates of fearless creativity, will be delivering a multi–media spectacle that goes beyond the formula of mainstream culture. On Saturday, August 28th, join some local Dread Central staff members and experience a unique display of mind-bending artwork, award-winning horror film atrocities, and a night of rock ‘n roll mayhem.

The Blacklist Art & Film FestivalFrom the Press Release:
This special event will be held at the Birch North Park Theatre (2891 University Avenue, San Diego, CA 92106). Doors will open at 5:00 pm for the art showcase, and the film program will screen promptly at 7:45 pm. The Blacklist After Party will immediately follow at Queen Bee’s Art & Cultural Center, one block from the Theatre (3925 Ohio Street, San Diego, CA 92106). Doors open at 10:30 pm, and bands hit the stage at 11:00 pm.

This special event will consist of:

• Art Showcase (Birch North Park Theatre) – On display will be a series of imaginative and thought-provoking paintings, photographs, sketches, and other mixed media from local San Diego talent as well as our special guest Featured Artists. The art showcase is free of charge from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

• Film Screening (Birch North Park Theatre) – The main attraction of the night is an exclusive collection of short award-winning horror films from all over the world (Spain, Australia, Canada, USA). These visceral creations are raw and original in content, a far and refreshing cry from that of mainstream Hollywood. Not for the faint of heart and a must for any horror fan. The films will be projected in high quality on a 15-foot wide screen and be accompanied by state-of-the-art sound. Audience members will select by vote the film that will take home the coveted prize, “The Beast in Show Award.” The film program is scheduled for 7:45 pm to 10:00 pm.

Tickets for the film program are $10 and will be available at the door on the night of the event (cash only). To get tickets in advance, email Jeff Speed at jspeed@1134films.com.

• The After Party (Queen Bee’s Art & Cultural Center) – The Blacklist Art & Film Festival will come to a close in glorious fashion with an award ceremony and a night of rock ‘n roll mayhem. Scheduled to begin the discord is Rats Eyes – These volatile vermin come on like a buzz-saw bringing hardcore punk back to its seething roots. Headlining the frenzy is Nihilist – This is thrash metal in its purest form, beer slamming and head banging. This Carlsbad trio can stand alongside the best in the genre and continues to impress.

Tickets will be available at the door (Queen Bee) on the night of the event (cash only). Ticket prices for this event are $5 for Film Festival attendees and $10 for After Party only. Doors open at 10:30 pm, and bands hit the stage at 11:00 pm.
