Bigfoot Stomps to DVD

Reporting another killer Bigfoot flick is coming to DVD at this point probably elicits a reaction of, “Another one?” This is quite ironic given that Bob Grey’s Bigfoot was actually one of the first out of the gate at the start of the current Sasquatchploitation boom of the last couple years, and yet by the time it finally arrives on DVD shelves this summer, it’s probably going to feel like an also ran. I reviewed the flick in November of 2005 (read Foy’s review of Bigfoot here), back when the film was just beginning to look for distribution. Look how many other such films have come along since, many featuring Lance Henriksen: Sasquatch Hunters, Clawed: The Legend of Sasquatch, Abominable, Sasquatch Mountain, and Stomp! Shout! Scream! Plus, I know of at least four more yet to come. And don’t forget about Sasquatch’s recent foray into marketing beef jerky.
Writer/director Bob Grey’s Bigfoot tells the tale of an ex-soldier and his precocious young daughter that move back to his small Ohio hometown that’s currently being plagued by a series of unexplained animal deaths. I don’t think I have to tell you what’s really behind the deaths or that it soon moves up the food chain to preying on local townsfolk.
Better late than never, Leo Films will be releasing the simply titled Bigfoot to DVD on June 26th (though Amazon currently claims June 19th for some reason.) No word of any extras or even box art at this time. It is actually a decent little monster movie, but I suspect it’s going to get looked down upon in the wake of Ryan Schifrin’s Abominable (review here) upping the ante for killer Sasquatch action and pretty much setting the current bar for modern Sasquatchploitation flicks.
