Darabont Looks Back to NOTLD for The Walking DeadOctober simply cannot get here fast enough! Why? Because we’ll have another reason to make that month our favorite time of the year as Frank Darabont’s adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s undead epic The Walking Dead will be enjoying its run! Ready to hear some more from the man himself about what to expect?

Frank recently sat down for an interview with AMC and revealed the following:

I’ve always wanted to do my take on the zombie mythos since I was a kid and I saw Romero’s Night of the Living Dead – the 1968 black and white version,” he tells AMC. “For our zombie show I’m calling that the Book of Genesis, and whenever there’s a question about zombie behavior, I go back to Night of the Living Dead.

He continues, “Here’s my favorite thing: the endless debate among the fans about how fast a zombie can move. There are the folks who just can’t stand seeing zombies running. I’m kind of in that camp, but if you look at the very first zombie in Night – the one in the cemetery chasing Barbara, he gets up to a pretty good jog. I’m keying our zombie behavior off of that film: Whether they’re in a very languid state or they’re on the attack, they’ll move no faster than that first zombie in Night of the Living Dead.

Going back to the Romero classic? I just fell in love with this project all over again.

The Walking Dead is based on Robert Kirkman’s popular comic series. It chronicles the months and years following a zombie apocalypse. Frank Darabont is the project’s writer, director, and exec producer with Anne Hurd and David Alpert also exec producing. KNB will be handling the effects, and Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey DeMunn, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Steven Yeun, and Andrew Lincoln are all set to star.
