Brad Fuller Gives Update on Friday the 13th Sequel

While talking all things A Nightmare on Elm Street during the press junket this morning at the Four Seasons, Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller gave us an update on the Friday the 13th sequel that offers a little more insight than his recent tweet on Twitter that proclaimed the project pretty much dead in the water.
“Drew and I loved making the first Friday the 13th,” explained Fuller. “It was a great experience for both of us. We loved running through the woods and want to make it back to Camp Crystal Lake. So we desperately want to make the next one, but we haven’t been able to move forward with the project. We’re still hopeful we’ll get to do it at some point; we just don’t know when.”
So, what exactly is holding up the project if Platinum Dunes already has a script in place? Fuller said, “You know, it’s a bigger budgeted movie than the first one was. It’s written as a 3D movie so it’s not as easy to say yes to as it was to say yes to the first one. A lot of that has to do with the current economy of filmmaking.”
“Officially, for now it’s dead, but the fate of it ultimately lies with our partners, Paramount and New Line. We just wait to see what they decide. But we are ready at a moment’s notice to begin on Part Two – kind of like a splinter cell. You can activate us at any time,” Fuller joked.
