Yesterday we told you about the initial reception Personal Shopper, starring Kristen Stewart, got at Cannes, and now we have a few more details to share. According to THR, the Paris-set spooker triggered both boos and applause when it screened for critics ahead of the Tuesday premiere. But then it screened for the public and received a four-and-a-half-minute standing ovation Tuesday night at the premiere. Go figure.

In the film directed by Olivier Assayas, Stewart plays a young American in Paris who half-believes she’s in contact with her late twin brother. While discussing the Cannes competition entry during the festival, Stewart said: “It’s a ghost story, sure, but the supernatural aspects of it just lead you to very basic questions.

As for the boos, Assayas, who also directed Stewart in 2014 Cannes competition entry Clouds of Sils Maria, said ahead of Tuesday night’s premiere, “It happens to me once in a while, where people just don’t get the ending.” He added, “When you come to Cannes, you have to be prepared for everything.

Stewart also pointed out, “Everybody did not boo. Let’s be clear.

IFC Films holds the distribution rights for the flick and intends to get it out to a wider audience later this year. Stay tuned for an exact date.
