On Friday, May 13th, the Coolidge Corner Theater and its hugely popular cult movie series After Midnite will screen Friday the 13th Part 3D and Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter at the Rocky Woods campground in Medfield, MA – an event appropriate called, “Friday the 13th: Camp Crystal Lake at Rocky Woods Reservation Part 2” (part 2 referring to a similar screening hosted by the Coolidge last year).

No doubt this will be a one-of-a-kind screening event for horror fans and outdoor enthusiasts alike! (The beautiful Rocky Woods is protected land offering over six miles of hiking trails).

We caught up with Mark Anastasio, Program Manager at the Coolidge Corner Theater, to ask him about how this killer idea originated…

We’ve done a summer camp horror-themed month in June the last couple years, and at each of those we’d sometime fire up the grill behind the theater and make s’mores to add to the experience. I knew that if we could somehow find an actual campsite to show these films, the audience would show up. I wanted to create the most immersive horror film-going experience possible, short of any actual loss of life or dismemberment. After a successful series of summer outdoor films at the Rose Kennedy Greenway in downtown Boston, we drew the attention of the Trustees of Reservations.

I received a call from their engagement site manager, Alex Dunn, who asked, “Have you ever thought about doing a scary camp horror movie at an actual camp site?,” and after a few seconds of muted fist-pumping and screaming, I picked up the line and said “Yes, it’s something we’ve thought a lot about.” It’s a perfect partnership. We were successful with our first event back on Friday, November 13, and can only hope that even more fans come to Part 2 in May!”

Not very familiar with the films? Here’s a little info from the Coolidge website about both:

Friday the 13th Part 3D – It’s spine-tingling horror in a whole new dimension in Friday the 13th Part 3D! A carefree summer becomes a deadly nightmare for another group of naïve counselors who choose to ignore Camp Crystal Lake’s gruesome legacy. They find themselves in a bloody game of cat-and-mouse with the maniacal Jason who stalks their every move… and ruthlessly kills them off one-by-one.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter – Prepare yourself as evil comes back to life in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. After the Crystal Lake massacres, Jason is pronounced dead and taken to the hospital morgue, where he is mysteriously revived, allowing his diabolical killing spree to continue at the camp where the gruesome slaughtering began. But this time, in addition to terrified teenagers, he meets a young boy named Tommy Jarvis, who has a special talent for horror masks and makeup, leading up to a horrifying, bloody battle that will keep you on the edge of your seat! Has the diabolical Jason finally met his match?
