Jackie Earle Haley Talks Freddy’s Voice and A Nightmare on Elm Street Reshoots

Though it’s not even out of the gate yet, Platinum Dunes’ remake of the Wes Craven classic A Nightmare on Elm Street is causing lots of buzz — both bad and good. Fan reactions were pretty much split when the film’s trailer hit. One of the major concerns was the sound of Freddy’s voice. We admit it did seem kind of off. Then, when news of the reshoots came, things didn’t get much better in terms of being confident that we’re going to get the movie we want. Finally someone’s addressing these issues.

In an interview with Sci-Fi Wire the new Freddy Krueger, Jackie Earle Haley (a truly excellent choice), commented on the above rumblings.

Turns out they haven’t locked down what Freddy is going to sound like yet. “We’re still working on it,” Haley told the site. “There’s still more [additional dialogue recording] stuff to do, so it’s an ongoing process, I think, until it comes out”.

As for the reshoots — “We did do some reshoots over the Christmas holidays, and I feel really good about that,” he said. “Just some reshoots and tweaks that I think are probably customary for pretty much every movie that gets made.” When asked if he was a part of the reshoots as the iconic razor gloved killer … “Yes, I was tortured all Christmas,” he joked.

Jackie Earle Haley, Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner, Thomas Dekker, and Katie Cassidy star in this reboot of the Nightmare franchise directed by Samuel Bayer. Look for it in theatres on April 30th, 2010.
