Guillermo Goes to TV

del Toro eyes television next...Though it’s never overtly mentioned that the projects will be horror in any way, shape, or form, it’s hard to avoid mentioning anything Guillermo del Toro in involved with since you just know he’s going to find a way to bring our genre into things no matter how mundane they may seem at first.

It’s being said this morning via The Hollywood Reporter that del Toro is in talks with 20th Century Fox Television to develop new one-hour series for television. Under a one-year deal with the studio, Guillermo will write, direct, and produce a few new series, though no specific projects were mentioned in the initial announcement.

“I have felt very clearly that some of the best writing and character development is happening on television,” del Toro is quoted as saying in the article. “I also feel that the future of storytelling will require knowledge and practice in the video game arena and in the television cable area.”

So what kind of ideas does the man have? “I would love to do genre projects that keep the more conventional genre elements very loose,” he continued. One example he did give was a police show with fantasy elements, though hopefully nothing like what we’ve seen done in the past.

We’ll drop you more on this exciting new prospect as we learn it!
