Jake GyllenhaalIt’s difficult to determine just how horror-oriented a mostly sci-fi sounding project will turn out to be, but since the parties involved in Source Code are Jake Gyllenhaal, Duncan Jones, and Summit Entertainment, we thought it best to provide these latest details to you guys and then keep an eye on things as they progress.

According to Variety Gyllenhaal is in negotiations to star in sci-fi thriller Source Code for Vendome Pictures and The Mark Gordon Co. Jones will direct, and Mark Gordon will produce with Vendome’s CEO Philippe Rousselet and Jordan Wynn. Rousselot noted that Source Code will launch the Vendome slate, adding he believes it will appeal to a world-wide audience and exemplifies the types of producers and filmmakers with whom Vendome plans to work. He and co-CEO Fabrice Gianfermi plan to produce a minimum of a dozen films over the next five years.

Source Code centers on a soldier who wakes up in the body of an unknown commuter and is forced to live and relive a harrowing train bombing until he can determine who is responsible for it. Production is slated to begin during the first quarter. Summit Entertainment will distribute the film in the U.S. Summit International is also handling the international sales, which began at the American Film Market with over 15 territories licensed.

The project’s been kicking around since 2007 with Universal, who, until recently, had Shane Abbess (Gabriel) slated to direct with Topher Grace in the lead.

Jones, who showed potent directorial prowess with his debut feature, Moon (review here), is already hard at work on his next project Mute so we’ll be keeping an eye on how well he juggles his priorities between that and Source Code and how the timing works out for both films.
