Photo Director on Wolfman

Romanek on board Wolfman remake! Finally, some movement on the Wolfman redux front has taken place, and thankfully it’s actually good news, not news that, say, Drew Carey has taken over the title role. Now that is scary.

No, the news, which comes to us via The Hollywood Reporter, is that One Hour Photo director Mark Romanek has signed on to helm the remake of Universal’s 1941 classic, which has been in development for a while now with Benecio del Toro attached to star. The new film, working from a script by Brainscan screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker, will share the same setting as the original, telling of how one Larry Talbot (del Toro) came about being bitten by and transforming into a werewolf.

I don’t know about you, but from what I’ve seen of music video helmer Mark Romanek’s work, which also includes the Weezer video for “El Scorcho”, I feel good with the man at the helm. With the spearheading of del Toro (who also serves as a producer), The Wolf Man remake is shaping up to be one pretty exciting new film.

Shooting will hopefully be under way this fall; keep it here for more as we hear it!
