Live Action Corpse Party Trailer Is Really, Really Dark

A new trailer for director Masafumi Yamada’s Corpse Party is a little difficult to watch because everything in the clip is bathed in shadows. I’m not sure if this was intentional or not, but it definitely makes things hard to figure out. There seems to be a bit of violence sprinkled throughout the clip, which makes sense considering the video games are drenched in gore and bondage.

It’s doubtful that Corpse Party will deliver the insane levels of bloodshed featured in the game, but fans will no doubt cry foul if Yamada and company muck around with the source material. Some folks aren’t too thrilled about the live-action adaptation, and this trailer probably won’t change their minds.

The synopsis explains, “On the last day of a high school festival, high school students are locked up at Tenjin Elementary School. A horrific murder took place there and the school school is haunted.”

Corpse Party should hit theaters in Japan on August 1. It’s unclear when or if the adaptation will arrive in other areas of the planet before the year wraps up.
