Zombieland Effects Guru Dishes Movie Details

Over at MTV Movie Blogs, special effects wizard Tony Gardner is giving up some 411 on the new zombie comedy currently in production, Zombieland. According to Gardner, “Basically, it’s the end of the world; the entire nation is zombies. And [the humans] are trying to get from the east coast to the west coast.”
“>Zombieland will hit theatres in time for Halloween and boasts a great cast including Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, Amber Heard, and Mila Kunis.
Gardner also discussed with MTV who was getting the zombie treatment and who wasn’t:
“Amber Heard, who’s stunningly beautiful in real life,” Gardner laughed, citing an example in the Pineapple Express beauty. “She wasn’t [after going through makeup]. Seeing some of the characters in their makeup for the first time is a little off-putting.”
“It’s how you present yourself as a zombie that determines how people will react to you,” he said of Heard and his other evil creations. “Once the contact lenses go in, I think all bets are off. We are going to do some prosthetics on the A-list guys,” he added.
One person not getting zombified? Harrelson, who’s one of the humans trying to survive the undead invasion.
Gardner described just how much was going into the effects work for Zombieland when he mentioned that one of their recent nights of filming included 160 zombies, in prosthetics and full makeup, on set in an amusement park. Frankly, that sounds way better than Disneyland to me.
Gardner went on to say that has no fears working with first-time filmmaker Ruben Fleischer, who gave him free rein in his zombie design. “[We] are just trying to be real extreme with it,” the Hollywood veteran said, “and trying to balance the scares out with the comedy.”
