Nightmarish Blumhouse Thriller Lands On Prime Video: “I needed to take a breather”

One of the best movies of 2023 flew under many people’s radar. So we are thrilled to tell you that it is now streaming on Prime Video. Please run, do not walk, to your televisions to check out The Passenger. There is no way to fully prepare you for this ride, but I will share my notes anyway.
In the film,
“Randy (Johnny Berchtold) is perfectly content fading into the background. But when his coworker Benson (Kyle Gallner) goes on a sudden and violent rampage leaving a trail of destruction in his wake, Randy is forced to face his fears and confront his troubled past to survive.”

The Passenger was directed by Carter Smith. It was written by Jack Stanley. The film stars Kyle Gallner, Johnny Berchtold, Liza Weil, Billy Slaughter, Matthew Laureano, Jordan Sherley, and Kanesha Washington.
Twitter is obsessed with Carter Smith’s direction and the pretty brilliant acting. Fans cannot get over Kyle Gallner and Johnny Berchtold’s performances.

We are huge fans of this movie and were also blown away by the acting at Dread Central. Our Editor-in-Chief, Mary Beth McAndrews, wrote about the performances in her 5 Star review:
“In The Passenger, Gallner is really given the space to show off his emotional range and just how terrifying he can be, while also giving off a strange warmth. Berchtold is the perfect foil to Gallner’s chaos, a quiet, trembling form that you know is bubbling with rage.”
I was late to the film, but I like to think I made up for it by loudly including Gallner in Dread’s The Top 10 Horror Performances Of The Year. I am happy it is finding a new life on Prime Video because it deserves so much more attention.
