Fantasia 2010: Days 15-18

The final Friday of Fantasia 2010 brought us one of the highlights of this year’s festival: director Christopher (Creep) Smith’s necromancer plague drama Black Death. Playing as the perfect accompaniment to Ken Russell’s The Devils, Black Death is a very subdued and naturalistic take on pestilence and witchcraft.

Check Out This Poster for The Shrine

The Shrine, which is written and directed by Jon (Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer) Knautz and stars Jack Brooks himself, Trevor Matthews, along with Meghan Heffern, Aaron Ashmore, and Cindy Sampson, has a new one sheet and while I'm liking it, I don't really know what it is I'm looking at.

Fantasia 2010: Days 10 and 11

Remember in my last entry when I asked where the good horror movies were this year? Well, I think they ground them all up and crammed the resulting mess of a thousand repellent movies into just one: A Serbian Film (review here).

Fantasia 2010: Days 5 Through 9

It’s been five days since we last checked in, and despite watching movies every day, there’s been little to report. Maybe it’s just the exhaustion talking, but this thought just keeps pounding through my Fantasia addled brain - “Where are all the good horror movies at this year?” It’s not like it’s a problem with the festival programming. Fantasia has an impenetrable track record of picking nothing but the best, most innovative, and most extreme horror so what’s going on?

Motion Picture Purgatory: Herschell Gordon Lewis - Godfather of Gore

Fantasia 2010 is in full swing, and one of the films that has already screened is the mostly well received documentary Herschell Gordon Lewis - The Godfather of Gore. Dread Central's favorite cartoonist Rick Trembles is also a resident of Montreal and a regular attendee of the annual film fest so of course he had to weigh in with his 2 cents on the film.
