If there’s one thing that makes us proud around here, it’s the fact that so many members of our staff have gone on to do so many wonderful and creative things in the film industry. The next getting their big break is veteran journalist Sean Decker.

Word’s just hit our desk that Decker has been appointed as Conley Entertainment Group’s Director of Development. Sean will assist in steering the production company’s horror-centric genre arm, on the heels of the World Premiere of their feature independent horror/thriller The Basement last month at Hollywood, CA’s Shriekfest Film Festival.

I’m beyond humbled and very excited to work with Conley and his team to develop and produce a slate of original, quality horror films,” Decker said of his appointment to the position (another example of Hollywood’s recent filling of their executive ranks with high-profile journalists). “Beginning in 1997 at Horror Online, then with Michael Gingold and Tony Timpone at Fangoria, and later with Steve Barton and the incredible folks at Dread Central, I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to work in the genre I’ve loved since I was a boy. I look forward to bringing that passion and experience to bear in helping to develop and produce a slate of compelling horror films for CEG.

Brian Conley, founder and CEO of Conley Entertainment Group, said, “Sean came very highly recommended by high-level industry insiders, and we’re ecstatic that he has agreed to join our team.

The Basement, which Decker also received co-producer and writing credits on, was co-written and co-directed by Conley and Nathan Ives; it is currently touring the film festival circuit, having recently made its world premiere at the Shriekfest Film Festival in Los Angeles. Starring Mischa Barton (The Sixth Sense), Jackson Davis (Lonelygirl15), Cayleb Long, and Bailey Anne Borders (The Fifth Wave), the horror film has received multiple nominations and awards, as well as a number of rave reviews. Michael Klug of HorrorFreakNews wrote, “Very smart filmmaking. The biggest reason to see [the film] is to watch, marvel, and shake your head in amazement – at what Jackson Davis brings to his tortured character.  It’s a performance too powerful to be ignored.”

Good on you, brother. We couldn’t be more proud!
