Maya Entertainment and the awesomely-named Death Ray Films have joined forces to produce a film version of the Dark Horse comic El Zombo Fantasma according to this morning’s THR. Dark Horse’s Mike Richardson will executive produce.

Dead of Night Helmer Preps War Monkeys

Kevin Munroe, the director of TMNT and the upcoming Dylan Dog adaptation, Dead of Night, started talking about another high-concept project he’s working on with Dark Horse recently called War Monkeys. THR reports that the project is gearing up for an early 2009 start.

Work on R.I.P.D. Continues

Dark Horse founder Mike Richardson talked to reporters recently and revealed that work on R.I.PD. is moving along well, with Wedding Crashers helmer David Dobkins in the directing chair according to Sci Fi Wire.

Another Steve Niles title will be seeing its break on the big screen very soon; THR reports that Overture Films has brought on David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express) to direct an adaptation of Niles’ Freaks of the Heartland.

Finally word has come down on when and where we’ll be able to experience My Name is Bruce, the long-awaited Bruce Campbell-helmed film in which Bruce Campbell plays Bruce Campbell, actor, sent to a town to defeat evil that’s much more real than the evil he’s used to dealing with.

Theatrical Release & Sequel for My Name is Bruce

If you’ve been waiting as long as I have for word on My Name is Bruce, breathe yourself a sigh of relief; the wait is over. Finally Dark Horse Entertainment is getting the film ready to make its way to theaters this October, and a sequel is being worked on as you read this!

Uni Develops R.I.P.D.

Over the weekend it was announced that Dark Horse Comics, the indie label responsible for everything from Hellboy to The Mask, has signed an exclusive three-year production and distribution deal. One of the first titles being worked on is R.I.P.D., the comic created by Peter Lenkov, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As it stands, My Name is Bruce is still due out sometime this year. Bruce Campbell himself has said it numerous times, and I have no reason not to believe what the Great Chin decrees.
