New GARBAGE PAIL KIDS Series in the Works at HBO Max from Danny McBride and David Gordon Green

Danny McBride and Halloween director David Gordon Green are bring the beloved ’80s trading card characters Garbage Pail Kids back to life as an animated TV series. The project is currently in development at HBO Max.

The show is inspired by McBride and Green’s love for the characters and Saturday morning cartoons. The expectation is the series will be family-friendly and appeal to audiences of all ages.

McBride, Green, and Josh Bycel (Hulu’s Solar Opposites) will write and co-create the series. Noel Bright and Steven A. Cohen will exec produce alongside Brandon James (The Righteous Gemstones) McBride, Green, and Bycel.

No word on if McBride will lend his voice to any of the characters.

The success of the Garbage Pail Kids cards spawned a live-action movie in 1987.

Synopsis:
When Dodger (Astin) accidentally releases the Kids from their magical trash can prison, all smell breaks loose. Despite their offensive personal habits – and attitude problems – Dodger soon becomes fond of the Kids. But when Messy Tessie, Foul Phil, Valerie Vomit, and the whole misfit crew join his fight against thuggish bullies, their efforts just might land them behind bars at the State Home for the Ugly!
