Working on Never Sleep Again was both a thrill and an honor for me and the stellar team we assembled to make the project into what it was always meant to be ... a gift for fans of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. But we're not done giving just yet ...
Ever wonder how much a script changes between its original form and what we see on theater screens or DVD? Now, thanks to Cargo Cult Press and MODERNCINÉ's Jack Ketchum’s The Girl Next Door: Movie Omnibus, you can see exactly what was different in Dan Farrands and Philip Nutman's screenplay versus director Gregory Wilson's cinematic version. When we first got started with our documentary Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy, there was only a single goal in mind: to create the best and most comprehensive companion piece to one of the greatest horror film franchises the world has ever know. What I never understood about '80s pop culture was the focus on Freddy Krueger. Don't get me wrong; I love Nightmare, but there's just something really wrong about having footy pajamas featuring a child killer on them. Cameras are currently rolling on a new Friday the 13th documentary called His Name Was Jason, which will be airing on Starz in February of 2009, just in time to build the hype for the February 13th release of the new F 13 remake.
Screenplay by Daniel Farrands and Philip Nutman
From the novel by Jack Ketchum
Draft date: 2003/2004
Shocked, appalled, moved, numbed, awed, distressed. It's a morass of conflicting emotions and feelings careening round one's mind and body once they delve into Jack Ketchum’s dark representations of the uncanny and horrible truth of the world that we all inhabit.
