The movie trailer has become an art form unto itself. No longer just a simple marketing tool, movie trailers are introductions, shouted from a soapbox, that a particular film has arrived. And as fans we devour them.

The trailer lets us know that the film we’ve heard so much about is real, and right around the corner. However, as much as we love them, trailers do tend to be somewhat similar … a flash of action here, some beautiful film stars there and a suitable rocking soundtrack laid below an intriguing narrator’s voice. Pretty routine fare all around.

That is, until the release of the trailer for the new short film Crépuscule. I can honestly say I’ve never seen anything quite like this little gem. Let’s just say … um … this is one trailer you have to check out for yourself.

It is featured on the film’s production blog, which has covered every aspect of the movie’s creation since August of 2010.

From the Press Release
Les Films de L’autre and Les Films Du 3 Mars are proud to announced that the official trailer for director Éric Falardeau’s (Coming Home, Purgatory) stop-motion animated extravaganza Crépuscule is now online.

Inspired by Japanese butoh theatre, Crépuscule is a stop-motion animated short film about a group of creatures living in perfect symbiosis with their environment. When a man and a woman break into their boring and regulated world, their lives are shattered forever.

The film was made within the Films de l’Autre artist-in-residency program. It was made with the help of the Société de développements des entreprises culturelles du Québec – Programme Jeunes Créateurs (SODEC). It is distributed by Les films du 3 Mars.

The film has a running time of 20 minutes. It was shot in HD using the Canon Mark II 5D camera. The film will be available in both HD and 35mm. It will hit the festivals circuit by spring 2011.

Eric Falardeau holds a Masters degree in Film Studies from the Université de Montréal. His short films have been screened at festivals from around the world (France, Spain, Italy, Slovakia, Germany, South Africa, UK, USA, Brazil and Canada); attracting new fans and critical acclaim along the way. He is currently working on his first full-length feature, entitled Thanatomorphose. Crépuscule is his first animated film.
