    Synopsis
Freddy Krueger returns in “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” a contemporary re-imagining of the horror classic.

A group of suburban teenagers share one common bond: they are all being stalked by Freddy Krueger, a horribly disfigured killer who hunts them in their dreams. As long as they stay awake, they can protect one another…but when they sleep, there is no escape.

Donning Freddy’s trademark fedora, red-and-green striped sweater, and four-bladed glove is Academy Award® nominee Jackie Earle Haley (“Little Children,” “Watchmen”).

The film is being directed by award-winning music video and commercial director Samuel Bayer (Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” Green Day’s “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”), marking his feature film debut.

The teens whose dreams are terrorized by Freddy Krueger are played by an ensemble of young actors, including Kyle Gallner (“The Haunting in Connecticut”), Katie Cassidy (“Taken,” TV’s “Supernatural” & “Melrose Place”), Rooney Mara (“Urban Legend: Bloody Mary”), Thomas Dekker (“Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”), and Kellan Lutz (“Twilight,” “The Twilight Saga: New Moon”). The supporting cast also includes veteran character actor Clancy Brown (“The Shawshank Redemption,” “Highlander”), Connie Britton (“Friday Night Lights”), and Lia D. Mortensen.

Bayer directed “A Nightmare on Elm Street” from a screenplay by Wesley Strick and Eric Heisserer, story by Strick. “A Nightmare on Elm Street” is based on characters created by Wes Craven in the eponymous 1984 sleeper horror hit. That film went on to become one of the horror genre’s longest-running, most successful and innovative film series.

The film is produced by Platinum Dunes’ Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, whose company has enjoyed tremendous success with a host of re-imagined horror franchises, including “Friday the 13th,” “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” and “The Amityville Horror.” The executive producers are Mike Drake, Robert Shaye, Michael Lynne, Richard Brener, Walter Hamada and Dave Neustadter, with John Rickard serving as co-producer.

The behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography Jeff Cutter (“Orphan”), production designer Patrick Lumb (“Valkyrie,” “The Omen”), editor Glen Scantlebury (“Transformers,” “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”), costume designer Mari-An Ceo (“Friday the 13th,” “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning”), visual effects supervisor Sean Faden (“The Amityville Horror”), special makeup effects artist Andrew Clement (“Star Trek,” “Cloverfield”), and special effects coordinator John Milinac (“Friday the 13th,” “The Amityville Horror”). The music is by Steve Jablonsky (the “Transformers” movies, “Friday the 13th).

New Line Cinema presents a Platinum Dunes Production, “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” being distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

    Good luck!

Contest: Win DEATH LINE and DEATHDREAM on Blu-ray

    Published

    on

Attention, ALL readers of Dread Central! Yes, that’s right… every one of you across the globe! We’re helping our pals over at Blue Underground with a contest where they will be giving a Blu-ray copy of Death Line and Deathdream to one of you! To enter, all you have to do is use the form below; and you’re all set!

Also, to learn more about the titles, simply click on the names, and you’ll be taken to Blue Underground’s website, where you can see specifics about each film!

To reiterate, this contest is open to people across the globe. Anyone, anywhere, can enter. However, the contest ends next Tuesday, May 1st, at 12 midnight ET, so make sure you enter before then!

    Death Line:
When a prominent politician and a beautiful young woman vanish inside a London subway station, Scotland Yard’s Inspector Calhoun (Donald Pleasence of Halloween) investigates and makes a horrifying discovery. Not only did a group of 19th century tunnel workers survive a cave-in, but they lived for years in a secret underground enclave by consuming the flesh of their own dead. Now the lone descendant of this grisly tribe has surfaced, prowling the streets for fresh victims… and a new mate.

    Deathdream:
In this shattering variation on The Monkey’s Paw, grief-stricken suburban parents (Academy Award nominees John Marley of The Godfather and Lynn Carlin of Faces) refuse to accept the news that their son, Andy (Richard Backus), has been killed in Vietnam. But when Andy returns home soon after, something may be horribly wrong: Andy is alive and well… or is he? Produced and directed by Bob Clark (Black Christmas) and written by Alan Ormsby (Deranged), Deathdream was one of the very first films to confront the domestic ravages of the Vietnam War. More than forty years later, it remains one of the most chilling horror films of all time.
