Win Tickets to See The Lodger w/Live Organ Accompaniment! Most of us agreed the 2009 remake of The Lodger failed to live up to its potential despite its stellar cast. Curious to see Alfred Hitchcock’s original 1927 version of the tale accompanied by live organ music at UCLA this weekend? Then read on!

UCLA Live offers film buffs a rare opportunity to experience Hitchcock’s first thriller with a screening of his silent film The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog presented at Royce Hall Saturday night, April 10, at 8 p.m. as part of a special evening celebrating the long-running creative partnership between Hitchcock and acclaimed composer Bernard Herrmann.

Dread Central, in conjunction with UCLA Live, has three pairs of tickets to give away to the screening. But time is short so act fast as the winners will be chosen by noon PT on Friday and notified shortly thereafter. To win, just hit us off with an E-MAIL HERE that includes your FULL NAME and MAILING ADDRESS, and we’ll do the rest.

The evening begins with Stephen Tharp, who will present his own variations from some of the most intriguing Herrmann scores of Hitchcock movies, including themes from Psycho and Vertigo.

Next, UCLA organist Christoph Bull will provide an improvised original score accompaniment to The Lodger. Bull will draw influences from Herrmann’s repertoire and blend his own musical vocabulary inspired by minimalism, traditional organ music, rock, jazz, and cinematic sound.

The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog is a moody, expressionistic tale of suspense and suspicion. As the city is gripped by a series of gruesome murders of young women, a London landlady fears her new tenant might be the culprit. The film also marks the first instance of Hitchcock’s now legendary cameo appearances in his own films.
