‘Wolf Man’: Leigh Whannell’s Monster Movie Gets Release Date, New Star

It is a heavy news week for anyone awaiting updates on Universal Pictures’ Wolf Man. The Blumhouse-backed project that is expected to claw its way into theaters on October 25, 2024, just had a couple of major plot twists.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leigh Whannell (Upgrade, The Invisible Man) will replace director Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines). They also reported that Ryan Gosling (Blade Runner 2049, The Nice Guys) has exited as the leading man and will be replaced by Christopher Abbott (Poor Things, Possessor). There doesn’t seem to be any bad blood though. The film will even retain some of the original “Kenergy” by giving Gosling an executive producer credit.

It is a bittersweet transformation as most of us were happy with the original pairing. Literally no one doubted the original duo would be “Kenough”. However, we are also very excited about these recent announcements. I personally wish there was a way to see both versions because I’m greedy.
Wolf Man was penned by Leigh Whannell, Corbett Tuck, Lauren Schuker Blum, and Rebecca Angelo. The script details are still under wraps. However, we know the film will follow a man (Abbott) whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.
We are excited to see how this all unfolds. More importantly, it’s hard to not be excited about the resurrection of some old-school Universal monsters. Especially when werewolves are involved.
