Last Thursday night, following hosting a screening and ensuing Q&A of Matt Zettell’s Resurrection County at The Los Angeles Film School (and the after-party at Kung Pao Kitty in Hollywood, CA), Dread was tipped off by the director that he’d just received a script for a sequel to his 2007 flick Cellar Door.

Entitled Cellar Door 2: Preymate, Zettell (pictured l to r with Resurrection County screenwriter James Cotton and stars Kathryn Michelle and Adam Huss) revealed of the film’s plot, “Herman has been locked away in a institution for the criminally insane. There should be nothing to fear. But Jody is running scared. A mysterious copy cat killer is stalking her, taunting her with the last words on earth she wants to hear; “Herman wants to play!.

Penned by Chris Nelson who scripted the first in the now-burgeoning series, actors James DuMont and Michelle Tomlinson return from the original to reprise their roles of ‘Herman’ and ‘Jody’ (respectively), and will be joined by Jack Millard (who served as a production designer on the original) and Denise Gossett. Zettell and Hilary Six are set to produce Cellar Door 2: Preymate, with Skye Borgman to serve as director of photography. Principle photography is slated for 2010.

As for the status of distribution of Resurrection County (review here), screenwriter James Cotton says that currently there is a deal on the table. A good thing too, as the film has been receiving enthusiastic audience response across the board as it makes its way through the festival circuit. Visit Resurrection County online for more.
