As someone who was born and raised in Kentucky, I’ve always had a fascination with Appalachian folklore, especially tales involving ghosts, monsters, or supernatural shenanigans. So when director Cameron McCasland’s short film Tailypo slid across my virtual desk, I was more than a little intrigued by what the flick had to offer, especially since it was filmed in my neck of the woods.

Tailypo was filmed at Copper Canyon Guntown Ranch in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, which is a fantastic setting for a creepy story centered around Appalachian cryptozoology. McCasland first heard about the folktale years ago as a child, and it apparently left quite an impression.

The first time I heard this legend, I was in elementary school, and my teacher told it to us around Halloween. It always stuck with me and creeped me out. I wanted to tell it again, in a way that was frightening but still accessible in the same way it was to me as a kid,” he explained.

Starring David Chattam and featuring the voice of TV horror host Danielle Geleherter (aka Penny Dreadful), Tailypo is now available to view online. In fact, you can find the film hanging out below. For more info about the flick, be sure to swing by the Red Headed Revolution website.
