MOTELX Genre Festival Returns To Portugal With A Brandon Cronenberg Retrospective And More

Possessor Brandon Cronenberg MOTELX

MOTELX, Portugal’s premiere genre festival, returns to Lisbon this September for its 17th edition! From September 12 to 18, the Cinema São Jorge will host premieres of some of the best the world has to offer when it comes to horror and genre cinema.

Gabriel Abrantes Amelia’s Children has its European premiere at the festival. In the film, “a man whose search for his biological family leads him and his girlfriend Ryley to a magnificent villa high in the mountains of Northern Portugal. His excitement at meeting his long-lost mother and twin brother soon turns to horror when he discovers he is linked to them by a monstrous secret.” Other European premieres include Property by Daniel Bandeira; Vincent Must Die by Stéphan Castang, and the winner of Cannes Critics’ Week 2023, the Malaysian Tiger Stripes.

Jennifer Reeder’s Perpetrator, Jacqueline Castel’s My Animal, Run Rabbit Run, and the return of David Farrier with his new documentary Mister Organ will all have their Portugal premiere at the festival.

Infinity Pool, Brandon Cronenberg’s most recent and resounding film, arrives exclusively at MOTELX, as does the man himself. The festival will screen the director’s cut of the film, along with a retrospective of his work, including Antiviral and the unprecedented Possessor. Cronenberg will also teach a masterclass while attending the festival.
