The five-part Alien: The Original Screenplay series launches on April 22, 2020.

Dan O’Bannon wrote the screenplay for Alien which was directed by Ridley Scott and produced by Gordon Carroll, David Giler, and Walter Hill. It stars Tom Skerritt, Sigourney Weaver, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm, and Yaphet Kotto. Jerry Goldsmith provided the score and 20th Century Fox released it back on September 6, 1979.

Alien centers on the crew of the starship Nostromo is awakened from their cryo-sleep capsules halfway through their journey home to investigate a distress call from an alien vessel. The terror begins when the crew encounters a nest of eggs inside the alien ship. An organism from inside an egg leaps out and attaches itself to one of the crew, causing him to fall into a coma.

It currently holds a 97% rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: “A modern classic, Alien blends science fiction, horror, and bleak poetry into a seamless whole.”
