Black Swan
It isn't often that we mention the Grammys here at Dread Central, but a few genre favorites have landed nominations for the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, which will be presented February 12, 2012, on CBS, and we just wanted to share the news.
The 2011 Teen Choice Awards winners have been announced, and while it's no surprise that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows dominated, we're happy to report Paranormal Activity 2 and Black Swan both won in their categories.
If you follow the horror genre at all, then you know that winning a Saturn Award is akin to taking home Oscar gold (since the horror genre is generally overlooked by the Academy Awards, this year notwithstanding), and the prestige of taking home that golden symbol of all that is great about our beloved genre is an achievement that is definitely worth celebrating.

This year's e-mail vote for the 9th annual Rondo Hatton Awards, conducted by the Classic Horror Film Board, drew more than 2,900 votes as fans chose among 30 categories; and we here at Dread Central are both honored and humbled to have once again been awarded a Rondo for Best Website! Rick Baker. Friend of apes. Maker of monsters. Seven time Oscar winner. And that lucky number seven was for The Wolfman, shared with fellow EFX maestro Dave Elsey. Their on-stage speech was great, but the extended Thank You Cam was even better. Both Baker and Elsey thanked Jack Pierce and Dick Smith for inspiring them.
It is that time of year again when Dread Central pays its respects to those who have worked in our beloved genre and made it to the red carpet on Oscar night 2011. The genre was in rare form when it came to the nominations.
Fresh off its big wins at this weekend's Film Independent Spirit Awards and the 83rd Annual Academy Awards, 20th Century Fox has released the full set of specs to be found on the Black Swan DVD and Blu-ray, which will be hitting store shelves on March 29th.

While it was a fairly slow night for horror at the "83rd Annual Academy Awards", a couple of genre flicks did manage to take home some gold, and for that we are thankful!
Now this is some award show news we are definitely happy to report! Black Swan took home four major prizes from the 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards.
