Oh, Kino Lorber… the titles you bring back and put on Blu-ray! How we love thee! Three more classics which we never thought would see the light of day are poised to rampage through your home video collection.

On January 5th The Phantom from 10,000 Leagues will come up from the depths!

Before there was Jaws or Orca the Killer Whale, there was The Phantom From 10,000 Leagues – the mother of all monsters from the deep! This classic 1950’s science fiction feature was a huge hit at drive-in theatres and aquariums across America! When a scientist tries to create a radioactive death ray, the experiment backfires, causing a small turtle to revert to a giant prehistoric size monster. Dr. Ted Stevens (Kent Taylor, The Crawling Hand) meets government investigators at the scene of another beach murder caused by this hideous sea monster, while marine biologist Professor King (Michael Whalen, The Dawn Express), who created the monster in his laboratory, is being pursued by a beautiful femme fatale who is blackmailing or killing everyone in sight in an effort to acquire King’s top secret files for the Russians. Directed by veteran Hollywood editor Dan Milner (From Hell It Came), his second of three directorial efforts.

Also on January 5th will be the release of Yongray, Monster from the Deep.

A monstrous creature creates destruction throughout Korea… as scientists running against time create a refrigerant that maybe the only weapon to stop the monster before it destroys the whole country. This cult classic was Korea’s first entry into the kaiju movie genre, made famous by the Japanese with classics Godzilla and Gamera. After a nuclear test causes a massive earthquake, scientists realize that the quake is the least of their problems… the intense radiation has awoken the legendary reptilian monster Yongary. Martial law is declared, and cities are evacuated as the armed forces battle the fearsome creature with all the arsenal of firearms available to them.

And finally on January 5th we’ll also see the release of 1988’s Spellbinder, a movie I forgot even existed.

Perfect romance! Relentless suspense! Total terror! A scream in the night: Across a deserted L.A. street, a man is brutally assaulting a woman. Jeff Mills (Timothy Daly, TV’s “Wings”) rushes to the woman’s defense… and crosses into a world of unimaginable evil. On the surface the beautiful woman, Miranda Reed (Kelly Preston, Twins), is a dream come true, the perfect lover, a miracle healer, and a soul mate. But what follows is a real living nightmare, an encounter with terror so intense that death is almost merciful. Because Miranda is a fugitive of a bloodthirsty cult who wants her back by their unholy night of winter solstice, back in time for a human sacrifice. TV veteran Janet Greek (“Babylon 5”) directed this terrifying thriller that features a strong supporting cast which includes Rick Rossovich (Roxanne), Audra Lindley (TV’s “Three’s Company” and “The Ropers”), Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Mortal Kombat), M.C. Gainey (Django Unchained), and Stefan Gierasch (Carrie).
